There is an old saying of Prevention is better than cure and as Louis Pasteur said on his deathbed; "the HOST is more important than the invader".
With us, in South Africa finding ourselves under yet another lock down from the second wave of COVID-19, which all the scientific evidence is pointing to being three times more infectious, the sober reality is that all of us will in fact get the virus at some point. While some of us may only experience mild symptoms and recover from the virus relatively quickly, there will be (and are) many that may get extremely sick, or even die.
A strong Immune System is basically our way of fighting off disease-causing micro-organisms (like viruses and bacteria). A weak Immune System, on the other hand, results in an increased susceptibility to virtually any type of illness.
How do you know if you have a weak Immune System? Well, some common signs include tiredness, repeated infections, inflammation, allergic reactions, slow wound healing, or even chronic diarrhoea, amongst others.
The idea of boosting your immunity naturally is enticing, but to achieve this on the average South African’s diet tends to be quite difficult. The Immune System is precisely that – it is a “system”, for it to work many different organs, structures and substances, including white blood cells, bone marrow, the lymphatic system (spleen, tonsils, thymus and our lymph nodes), specialised cells found in various body tissues, and many more all work together to protect the body against infection and disease to keep us healthy.
For our Immune System to work the way it should, it must be cared for properly, this includes the right nutrients, a healthy lifestyle and the strict avoidance of things that can suppress it. Many parts of our daily lives can compromise our Immune System, for example the chemicals in the household cleaners that we use, the overuse of antibiotics and other drugs, pesticides, and the myriad of food additives in our daily diet. Along with these, stress is yet another factor that can adversely affect our Immune System, as it results in a sequence of biochemical events that ultimately suppress the normal activity of our white blood cells and places undue demands on the endocrine system.
CAMED recommends the following:
• Taking your daily dose of CAMED Immune Support. With our diets lacking a lot of the necessary nutrients that we need, CAMED Immune Support helps add all the necessary vitamins and minerals to the Immune System. It also includes Beta Glucans which non-specifically activates the Immune System, primarily by ingestion by the macrophage immune cells, through specific and unique beta glucan receptors on the cell surface.
• Take inventory of the most important factors that may compromise your Immune System and take steps to correct them. Stress and an incorrect diet (especially if your diet is high in sugars and refined processed foods) are two of the most common immune suppressors.
• Your diet should consist of fresh fruits and vegetables (preferably raw), nuts, seeds, grains, and other foods high in fibre.
• Avoid too much meat, processed foods, sugar and sodas.
• Get adequate sleep.
• Try to minimise your stress. Living your life under constant stress, even low-grade, causes the body to produce too much cortisol (the stress hormone) and over time, elevated cortisol lowers your resistance to fighting off infection and contributes to poor sleep and higher blood pressure.
• A daily intake of Vitamin C.
• Exercise regularly.
• Avoid overeating and maintain a healthy weight.
• If you smoke, try to cut down or even stop completely. Read Alan Carr’s book on the Easy way to Quit Smoking.

• If you drink alcohol, drink only in moderation.
• Drink more water.
Finally, remember that even if you do all the right things, you might sometimes still get sick. That is just how the body works.
Keep your Immune System healthy by following the above and boosting it with CAMED Immune Support. You will be able to bounce back in no time stronger and better.
